Katoomba RSL

Project: Wordpress Website

Jimmyweb designed and developed the website for Katoomba RSL, a well-established community club in the heart of the Blue Mountains, bringing together dining, live entertainment, events, and function spaces under one roof for members, locals, families, and visitors to the region. Built on WordPress as a bespoke custom solution with API integration, the site is structured around real user behaviour, with clear pathways through to dining, what’s on, and functions, and a clean, contemporary layout that feels welcoming across a broad demographic.

Katoomba RSL is a well-established community club located in the heart of the Blue Mountains. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and broad offering, the club brings together dining, live entertainment, events, and function spaces under one roof. It serves a diverse audience, from long-standing local members to tourists visiting the region, and has built a reputation as a vibrant and active venue that consistently offers something for everyone.

The primary challenge was to design and develop a website that could effectively communicate the full scope of what the club offers, without overwhelming the user. With multiple audiences to consider, including members, locals, families, and visitors to the Blue Mountains, the site needed to cater to a wide range of needs and expectations.

Another key requirement was ensuring that users could quickly find what they were looking for. Whether that was dining options, upcoming events, or function information, the experience needed to be intuitive and efficient. A cluttered or overly complex structure would risk frustrating users and losing engagement.

There was also a strong commercial focus behind the brief. Events and functions play a significant role in the club’s ongoing success, so these areas needed to be clearly prioritised within the site structure. The goal was not just to inform, but to encourage action and drive enquiries.

What We Did

We approached the project with a strong focus on clarity, structure, and real user behaviour. The site architecture was carefully planned to align with how visitors naturally interact with a venue like this, ensuring that key sections such as dining, what’s on, and functions were immediately accessible.

The design direction balances a clean, contemporary aesthetic with an approachable and familiar feel. Rather than overcomplicating the interface, we focused on creating a layout that is easy to navigate, visually consistent, and comfortable for a broad demographic. Clear typography, thoughtful spacing, and a logical flow all contribute to a seamless browsing experience.

Content was structured to highlight the energy and activity of the venue. Events and promotions are given strong visibility throughout the site, helping to reinforce the sense that the club is always active and engaging. This not only improves user experience, but also encourages repeat visits and ongoing interaction.

The Tech Stack

The website was custom designed and built on WordPress, providing the flexibility required to support a content-rich and frequently updated site. The platform allows the Katoomba RSL team to easily manage events, menus, and general content without relying on technical support.

In addition to the custom build, the project included creative direction, responsive design, managed website hosting, and ongoing maintenance and support. This ensures the site remains secure, up to date, and performing reliably over time.

Performance Optimisation

The site has been carefully optimised for speed and performance, ensuring fast load times across both desktop and mobile devices. A faster website not only improves usability and reduces friction for users, but also plays an important role in search engine visibility, helping the site attract more organic traffic.

Bringing It All Together

The end result is a website that reflects the energy and diversity of Katoomba RSL as a venue. It brings together a wide range of content in a way that feels structured and easy to navigate, allowing users to quickly access the information they need while still exploring what the club has to offer.

Importantly, the site supports real business outcomes. By prioritising key areas such as events and functions, and making them easy to engage with, the website becomes a practical tool for driving enquiries and increasing foot traffic, rather than simply acting as an online brochure.

What We Loved

We loved how clearly the project aligned with real user intent. Every design and structural decision was grounded in how people actually use a venue website, which resulted in an experience that feels intuitive, efficient, and purposeful without needing to rely on overly complex design elements.

What They Loved

The team at Katoomba RSL appreciated the clarity and ease of use the new site provides, along with the ability to manage and update content internally. They also valued how the site better showcases their events and function offerings, helping them connect more effectively with both new and returning visitors.
