Chesleigh Homestead
Jimmyweb designed and developed the website for Chesleigh Homestead, a family-run country retreat near Sofala offering immersive farm stays shaped around horse riding, wide open landscapes, and a slower way of living. The site sits on a fully bespoke WordPress framework and puts imagery and pacing at its centre, with restrained typography and an absence of clutter that mirrors the honesty and rhythm of the property itself.
Chesleigh Homestead is a family-run country retreat set on a vast rural property near Sofala, offering immersive farm stays built around horse riding, wide open landscapes, and a slower, more grounded way of living. Established decades ago and shaped by generations of hands-on care, the property has built a loyal following of guests seeking something more meaningful than a standard getaway. What sets Chesleigh apart is its authenticity. This is not a styled version of country life, it is the real thing, where horses, campfires, shared meals, and quiet moments form the core of the experience.
The challenge was not simply to design a website that showcased accommodation. It was to translate a feeling. Chesleigh Homestead is not about rooms or amenities in the conventional sense. Guests are drawn to the idea of stepping into a different rhythm of life, one that feels slower, more present, and more connected to the land.
That meant resisting the instinct to over-explain or over-sell. A typical accommodation website might lean heavily on features, packages, and conversion tactics. Here, that approach would have felt out of place. The risk was creating something too polished or too commercial, which could undermine the honesty of the brand.
There was also a delicate balance to strike visually. The design needed to feel refined and intentional, while still retaining a slightly rustic, grounded quality. Too minimal and it becomes sterile. Too rustic and it loses clarity and usability. The goal was to sit in that narrow space where authenticity and design discipline meet.
What we did
We approached the project with a strong emphasis on creative direction first. Before any layouts were explored, we defined the emotional tone of the site. This became the foundation for every design decision that followed.
The resulting design leans heavily on imagery, allowing the landscape, the horses, and the lived experience of the property to carry the narrative. Large, unhurried image sections create a natural rhythm, encouraging users to slow down as they move through the site. The pacing is intentional. Nothing feels rushed, and nothing competes for attention.
Typography was kept restrained and understated, supporting the content without dominating it. We avoided overly stylised or trend-driven type choices in favour of something quiet and confident. This helped reinforce the sense of authenticity and ensured the site felt timeless rather than momentary.
We also made a conscious decision to remove unnecessary elements. Navigation is simple, content is focused, and there is a deliberate absence of clutter. This clarity allows the experience to breathe and mirrors the feeling of being on the property itself. The end result is a site that feels less like a sales tool and more like an invitation.
The tech stack
The site was built on a bespoke WordPress framework, allowing complete flexibility in both design and functionality. Rather than relying on pre-built themes, we developed a custom solution tailored specifically to the needs of Chesleigh Homestead, ensuring the design intent was preserved at every level.
With such a strong reliance on large-scale imagery, careful optimisation was essential to maintain fast load times without compromising visual quality. We implemented a range of speed optimisation techniques to ensure a smooth experience across devices and connection speeds.
The site is fully responsive, with layouts carefully adapted for mobile and tablet to maintain the same sense of pacing and clarity found on desktop. Hosting, ongoing maintenance and support were also included, providing long-term stability and ensuring the site continues to perform reliably as content evolves.
Bringing It All Together
The final website feels cohesive because every element is working toward the same idea. The visuals, the structure, and the tone all reinforce the core message of Chesleigh Homestead. This is a place to disconnect, to slow down, and to experience something real.
Importantly, the site does not try to force conversion in a traditional sense. Instead, it builds desire through atmosphere and emotional connection. It trusts the audience to recognise the value of the experience without needing to be pushed.
The result is a digital presence that aligns closely with the physical experience of the property. It sets the right expectations, attracts the right audience, and strengthens the brand in a way that feels natural and sustainable.
What we loved
We loved the discipline behind the design. The willingness to hold back, to let space and imagery do the work, and to avoid unnecessary complexity is what gives the site its strength. The slow pacing, the restrained typography, and the clear visual hierarchy all contribute to an experience that feels calm and intentional.
There is also a quiet confidence in the design. It does not try to impress in obvious ways, but instead creates a lasting impression through subtlety and consistency.
What they loved
The team at Chesleigh Homestead connected immediately with the direction. They appreciated that the site felt carefully considered and genuinely reflective of their property, rather than a generic accommodation template.
Most importantly, they felt the site understood their audience. It captures the idea that guests are not simply booking a stay, but stepping into a version of themselves that values experience, connection, and simplicity. The final result feels authentic, grounded, and true to who they are.
