Peterson Haines is a Sydney-based commercial litigation and dispute resolution law firm focused on complex corporate disputes, insolvency, and high-stakes legal matters. Operating in a space where precision and judgement are critical, the firm positions itself as a strategic partner to business owners and decision-makers navigating difficult situations. What sets Peterson Haines apart is its commercial mindset. Rather than purely legal process, the firm is built around clarity, strategy, and outcomes.

From the outset, it was clear that their brand needed to reflect that difference. Not just another law firm, but a confident, modern practice that communicates intelligence, composure, and control.

Legal websites often fall into predictable patterns. Dense content, conservative layouts, and generic messaging tend to dominate the category. For Peterson Haines, this approach would have undermined their positioning. The challenge was to create a digital presence that felt clear, composed, and commercially focused, while still maintaining the trust and authority expected of a litigation firm.

Clarity was critical. Visitors to the site are often under pressure, looking for reassurance and direction. The website needed to communicate what the firm does, who they help, and why they are trusted, without overwhelming the user with legal jargon or unnecessary complexity.

At the same time, the tone had to strike a careful balance. Too corporate and it risks feeling cold or indistinguishable. Too relaxed and it risks losing credibility. The design and messaging needed to work together to create a sense of confidence that feels natural rather than forced.

What We Did

We approached the project with a strong focus on structure and hierarchy. Every page was designed to guide the user clearly, with deliberate pacing between headings, supporting content, and calls to action. The goal was to make complex services feel accessible without oversimplifying them.

The visual direction leans into modern design principles. Generous spacing, refined typography, and a restrained colour palette create a calm and confident experience. Rather than relying on heavy design elements, we focused on subtlety and consistency. This allows the content to take the lead while reinforcing a premium, professional feel.

A key part of the project was ensuring alignment between the copy and the design. The messaging is concise, commercially focused, and direct. The design supports that tone through clarity and restraint. Together, they create a unified brand voice that feels intentional across every touchpoint.

We also paid close attention to usability. Navigation is simple and intuitive, allowing users to quickly understand the firm’s services and areas of expertise. Each page is structured to answer key questions early, helping users build trust and confidence as they move through the site.

The Tech Stack
