Hideaway Apartments – Lord Howe
Jimmyweb designed and developed the Hideaway Apartments website to create a warm, inviting digital presence for its Lord Howe Island accommodation. The custom WordPress build uses strong imagery, simple navigation and fast performance to help guests explore the property, build confidence and move easily toward an enquiry or booking.
Hideaway Apartments came to us with a very clear brief, which in some ways made the project more demanding, not less. The goal was not to create a feature-rich website or a high-end resort experience. Instead, the site needed to feel simple, honest, and reflective of the property itself. Affordable, comfortable accommodation on Lord Howe Island, presented in a way that felt genuine and trustworthy.
That meant resisting the temptation to overdesign. The island is one of the most naturally beautiful destinations in Australia, yet the property is positioned at the more accessible end of the market. The challenge was to strike a balance between showcasing the experience and staying grounded in reality. No stock imagery, no inflated messaging, and no unnecessary complexity.
There was also a structural constraint. The site needed to be a single-page experience. Every piece of content, from imagery to enquiries, had to live within a tight, linear flow. This required careful thinking around hierarchy, pacing, and clarity to ensure users could easily understand the offering and take action without friction.
What we did
We approached the design with restraint. The layout is clean and uncluttered, allowing the content to breathe and the imagery to do the heavy lifting. Real photography was placed front and centre, giving potential guests an authentic sense of the property and its surroundings. Rather than overwhelming users with options, we guided them through a simple narrative that introduces the accommodation, highlights the experience, and leads naturally into an enquiry.
Typography and spacing were carefully considered to create a calm and readable interface. The design avoids heavy visual treatments or unnecessary embellishments. Instead, it leans into subtlety. Soft colour tones, consistent spacing, and clear sections help establish a sense of ease and trust. The result is a site that feels approachable and honest, aligning closely with the brand.
From a user experience perspective, everything was streamlined. Navigation is minimal, calls to action are clearly positioned, and the enquiry process is straightforward. The goal was to remove friction at every step, particularly for users browsing on mobile. The one-page structure works cohesively, with each section flowing naturally into the next without feeling cramped or repetitive.
The tech stack
The site was built as a bespoke custom design and developed on WordPress, giving the client full control over their content while keeping the backend simple and manageable. Rather than relying on a heavy theme or unnecessary plugins, the build was kept lean to support performance and reliability.
Given the single-page nature of the site, performance was a key consideration. We ensured fast load times through optimised assets and efficient code structure. This is particularly important for a travel-based audience, where users may be browsing on slower connections or mobile devices.

The final result is a website that feels true to the property. It does not try to be something it is not. Instead, it presents Hideaway Apartments in a way that is clear, inviting, and grounded in authenticity. By focusing on simplicity, we were able to create a digital experience that reflects the calm and understated nature of a stay on Lord Howe Island. The site communicates everything a potential guest needs to know, without distraction, while still capturing a sense of place.
It is a reminder that effective web design is not always about adding more. Sometimes it is about knowing what to leave out, and executing the essentials well.

We really enjoyed the discipline this project required. Designing within clear constraints pushed us to focus on fundamentals such as layout, spacing, and content flow. There was no room for unnecessary features, which meant every element had to earn its place. There is something satisfying about a site that feels effortless.
