Noel Hart
Jimmyweb designed and developed the website for Noel Hart, an established Australian contemporary artist whose practice spans blown glass, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, with work exploring themes of biodiversity, endangered species, and the natural world. The custom WordPress build takes an art-first approach, using a neutral palette, refined typography, and controlled image grids to create a calm, gallery-like browsing experience that supports both creative presentation and Noel’s professional standing with galleries, collectors, and curators.
Noel Hart is an established Australian contemporary artist whose practice spans blown glass, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. His work explores themes of biodiversity, endangered species, and the natural world, expressed through intricate, organic forms and a refined visual language. With a long exhibition history both in Australia and internationally, Noel’s work sits at the intersection of craftsmanship, concept, and environmental narrative.
What sets Noel apart is the depth and consistency of his practice. Each body of work feels considered and connected, yet distinct in its medium and execution. This level of artistic maturity required a digital presence that could reflect not just the work itself, but the stature behind it.
The brief was not simply to design a visually appealing website, but to create a digital environment that could present Noel’s work with the same level of care and authority as a physical gallery or exhibition space.
The existing landscape of artist websites often leans too far in one of two directions. Either they are overly minimal to the point of lacking structure and clarity, or they are overdesigned, introducing unnecessary visual noise that competes with the artwork. Striking the right balance between restraint and usability was critical.
Another key consideration was how to present multiple mediums in a cohesive way. Noel’s work spans glass, painting, and sculpture, each with its own visual characteristics and presentation needs. The site needed to accommodate this diversity while maintaining a consistent and calm browsing experience.
At the same time, the website needed to support Noel’s professional standing. It had to clearly communicate his exhibition history, artist statement, and representation, ensuring the site functioned as a credible resource for galleries, collectors, and curators.
What we did
We approached the project with a clear art-first philosophy. Every design decision was made to support the work, not compete with it. The interface was intentionally restrained, using a neutral palette, refined typography, and generous spacing to create a calm and immersive viewing experience.
The layout system was carefully considered to ensure consistency across the entire site. Artwork is presented in clean, structured grids with controlled image ratios, allowing each piece to sit comfortably within the page. This consistency creates rhythm and familiarity, helping users move through the work without distraction.
Navigation was designed to be simple and intuitive. Users can move effortlessly between different bodies of work, with clear pathways that feel predictable and unobtrusive. This allows visitors to focus on the artwork itself, rather than figuring out how to navigate the site.
We also placed strong emphasis on content structure. Dedicated sections for each medium, alongside a well-organised artist statement, CV, and exhibition history, ensure the site communicates both creative depth and professional credibility. The result is a website that feels as much like a curated archive as it does a portfolio.
The tech stack
The website was custom designed and built on WordPress, giving Noel a flexible and scalable platform to manage and grow his body of work over time. The CMS allows for easy addition of new artworks, exhibitions, and content without compromising the integrity of the design.
Beyond design and development, we provide ongoing website hosting, maintenance, and support. This ensures the site remains secure, up to date, and performing reliably, giving Noel complete peace of mind and the ability to focus on his practice.
Performance optimisation
Given the image-heavy nature of the site, speed optimisation was a key consideration throughout the build. Images were carefully managed and optimised to maintain visual quality while ensuring fast load times. A well-optimised website not only improves usability but also supports stronger search engine performance.
Bringing It All Together
The final result is a refined, gallery-like digital experience that presents Noel Hart’s work with clarity and confidence. The design feels calm and considered, allowing each piece to be viewed without distraction while still providing the structure and information users need.
Importantly, the site positions Noel at the level he operates. It communicates not just what he creates, but the depth, consistency, and professionalism behind his work. The balance between artistic presentation and practical usability ensures the site serves both creative and strategic purposes.
What we loved
This project is a strong example of disciplined, art-first design. By focusing on clarity, consistency, and restraint, we created a digital experience that elevates Noel Hart’s work while maintaining a seamless and intuitive user journey. The result is a scalable, future-proof platform that supports both the artistic and professional goals of the client.
What they loved
Noel appreciated how the website presents his work without distraction, allowing each piece to stand on its own.
“The new site presents my work in a way that finally feels true to it. It’s calm, considered, and allows the artwork to stand on its own. It also gives me confidence that galleries and collectors are seeing my work in a professional, credible environment.”
