Lagoon Landing – Lord Howe

Project: Wordpress Website

Sector: Travel

Clients with Multiple Sites

Lagoon Landing is not a typical holiday property, and the website couldn’t behave like one. Set on Lord Howe Island, it offers a deeply private, slow-paced experience that appeals to couples seeking quiet, nature, and a sense of escape. The challenge was to reflect that feeling online without falling into familiar hospitality clichés.

Many accommodation websites lean too far in one direction. They either feel dated and functional, or they overcompensate with glossy, generic “luxury” styling that lacks personality. Lagoon Landing needed neither. The site had to feel considered, calm, and grounded in its environment. It needed to suggest quality without announcing it.

There was also a question of pace. Lord Howe is not a high-volume, impulse-booking destination. Visitors tend to dream about it first. The website needed to support that mindset by creating space to explore and absorb, rather than pushing users through a hard conversion funnel.

What we did

We approached the design with restraint. The structure is simple, but intentional. Large, immersive imagery takes the lead, supported by short, carefully placed sections of copy. Instead of layering on features, we focused on removing anything that distracted from the atmosphere of the property.

The visual language is quiet and architectural. Clean lines, generous spacing, and a muted palette allow the natural textures and light within the photography to come forward. There is no reliance on themed decoration or obvious coastal tropes. The result feels specific to the place, not borrowed from a template.

Content was treated with the same discipline. Rather than listing amenities in long blocks, we worked with more descriptive, grounded details that help visitors imagine the experience. Small touches such as references to open windows, filtered light, and time spent outdoors help build a sense of presence without overexplaining.

We also made a deliberate decision to keep the user journey uncluttered. There are no intrusive popups or overly assertive calls to action. The navigation is straightforward, and the flow encourages exploration at a natural pace. It invites interest rather than forcing it.

The tech stack

The site was delivered as a fully bespoke design and custom WordPress build. This allowed us to shape the experience around the property itself rather than adapting it to fit within the constraints of a pre-built theme. With image-led design, maintaining fast load times is critical. We implemented careful image optimisation, efficient asset loading, and a lightweight codebase to ensure the site feels responsive without compromising visual quality.

Bringing It All Together

The finished site feels aligned with the experience Lagoon Landing offers in real life. It is calm, spacious, and quietly confident. There is a consistency between the property, the photography, and the digital experience that helps build trust from the first interaction. Importantly, the design does not try to overperform. It allows the setting to speak for itself. This creates a more genuine connection with the audience and sets the right expectations before they even arrive on the island.

By focusing on clarity, pacing, and authenticity, the site positions Lagoon Landing as a premium stay without needing to rely on exaggerated language or visual noise.

What we loved

We loved the restraint in the final design. The site breathes. There are no aggressive booking prompts, no cluttered sections competing for attention, and no unnecessary embellishments. Every element has space to exist, which mirrors the feeling of the destination itself. It is a reminder that good design is often about what you choose to leave out. The slower, more considered pacing feels right for Lord Howe and allows the experience to unfold naturally.

What Lagoon Landing loved

The client connected strongly with how well the site reflects their audience. It speaks directly to people looking for privacy, nature, and simplicity, rather than those chasing a highly packaged luxury experience. They also appreciated how the design captures the essence of the property without overcomplicating it. It feels true to Lagoon Landing, and that authenticity comes through clearly to visitors.
